How Do I View Myself?

"When pride comes..."
The proud woman thinks very highly of herself and her accomplishments and hopes others do too.
The proud woman believes she has it all figured out and demonstrates an unwise, unwitting independence that often goes hand in hand with stubbornness.
The proud woman dominates conversation because she is the primary focus of her thoughts and interest. She listens little, heeds rarely, as she believes she has most things figured out just fine.
"But with the humble is wisdom...." Prov 11:2
The humble woman clings to a teachable, open spirit and recognizes how easily she can be deceived. She looks to God and others to help her keep on course.
The humble woman knows of her great need for God and his truth. She desires attention and focus on Him and His doings.
The humble woman knows God desires for her to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with Him. She can do this because she remembers clearly where He brought her from and where she might have been.

Prov. 26:12: “Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”
Lord, keep me pure from the deceitful, abominable attitude of loving self: pride.

  1. This is a tough one. Being proud, number one, the best at what we do, is ingrained in us from childhood, not to mention being born selfish from the get-go.
Recognizing that whatever talents, looks, personality, intelligence we may have is from God, and without his work in our lives we are nothing, is the reality. But how often do we live in reality?
Thankfully, God is merciful and long-suffering as we learn to walk humbly and have that teachable spirit. And he has promised, "that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
