Question #2

Continuing on with our "Questions to Ask in the New Year"

What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
At first read, I thought along the line of big-time miracles. You know, winning the lottery, my husband publishing a book (that he hasn’t written yet), my daughter securing a full-ride scholarship for college, my son making his bed without being told (oops, just a little sarcastic humor thrown in there….)

Seriously, I know God is capable of any of these and so much more.
(My problem is my scope is so limited and my perspective so small.)
Yet, I leave the choosing of miracle-performance to Him. Who am I to try to choose what, when and how He’s to do his nature-bending feats, and do I attempt to beckon these for my own self-focused interests?

But, in reference to the original question, I realized after further consideration that what is humanly impossible is not limited to just the stereotypical miracle.
What’s humanly impossible is often a lot closer to home….sometimes as close as one’s own home and one’s own heart.

Consider with me, these ‘humanly impossible’ accomplishments:
o Forgiving one who has wronged, hurt or betrayed you deeply.
o Loving one actively and continually who resists, rejects or simply doesn’t seem to notice
o Persevering day after day in a trial that seems to change not one iota
o Disciplining oneself to read through the entire Bible (without quitting) this calendar year
o Committing as a weekly goal to make the effort to reach out to another in a tangible way
o Getting up each morning and choosing to look positive on life (with faith in God) instead of negative about life (based on my own feelings/situation)
o Moving toward my husband (w/faith in God) to meet his needs before my own are met
o Getting my home organized with a grocery list, meal plan, and housecleaning routine –and then making it a habit that sticks
o Praying for my neighbors, then deliberately initiating a relationship of friendship
o Developing & maintaining the habit of daily time with God in the Word and prayer
o Overcoming fear & getting one’s house in order enough to practice hospitality
o Giving up one’s preference to be left alone in order to become part of something bigger than one’s self: be it joining a church, committing to the small group, investing transparently in a relationship for the long haul…or ??
o Giving up control of one’s life, placing it (again and again, as needed) in God’s hand, and committing to do it with a willing, soft and trusting heart that doesn’t question or grow cynical

What might be your ‘humanly impossible’ thing to ask God for in this next year?
The thing for you that, in its accomplishment, would so evidence God’s grace that it would be truly supernatural.

Ask God to do it through you.

“For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37

  1. I have many 'humanly impossible' things that I want/should do. I need to rely on God and ask him to give me the will and strength to actually follow through. Good blog-it was encouraging
