But it does have Scriptural support.
How?
In two ways:
In two ways:
1) Scripture - The 2nd greatest commandment says , “And you should love your neighbor as yourself…” This verse isn’t meant to define love, but to explain its extent and the how-to. Since I am to love another as I’d love myself, the manner in which I’d like to sometimes be loved is through the enjoyment of fun.
2) Example of God – Simply, some of the ways God shows His love to us are wrapped up in a package of pleasure. (Sex seems the most obvious, though not the only, example. Discretion does limit me to absolutely no explanation but maybe that’s a good thing with my excessive word tendency …and you get the point, here, right?) Other examples: beauty & brilliance of a rainbow, the exhilaration of a roller coaster ride, the scent of freshly baked cookies…)
Obviously, fun is not the primary quality, not even an extremely significant one, in loving another, but I’d suggest it can be a powerful and Godly one.
So here’s my idea* to love another (applies to any ‘another’ you might choose to show love—husband, child, friend) with a little fun.
*Tested & proven to be effective & fun!
- Purchase a bag of peanut M & M’s
- Write the following explanation on a 3x5 card
>This is your ‘magic’ bag of M&M’s to help show you that I love you.
>For each candy you pull from the bag & pop in your mouth, you are granted one wish.
>The wish can be granted only by the giver of this bag, and cannot include anything that must be bought or includes the transfer of cash.
>Your wish can be any way that you’d like for me to spend time with you!
>Limit 3 M&M’s per day J But no expiration date on the offer!
3. Give M&M bag & note to the one you love (or give it in a creative, fun way too!)
If you are a bit hesitant, choose a snack size bag (low risk); if you're ambitious, give a full pound bag for months of fun (you might end up dieting together, however.)
Go ahead: Have some fun & love someone…all in the same act!
