A Vivid Explanation

God loves you.  He loves me.
He goes to great length for us to get the picture.

Ezekiel 16 gives a vivid, graphic picture (metaphor) of how this love looks, to what extent it was undeserved, and to what great lengths God went to as He loved us.  Take a moment to read the passage Ezekiel 16:4-14 (just click on it to quickly link to it) before you consider my reflection.

                                                                       Ezekiel 16

Exposed, discarded, void of worth,
Cast out, abhorred, unclean since birth.
Uncut the cord, stained with birth’s blood,
An unclothed babe, disdained, unloved.

One passes by on this dark night,
Stops to view the repulsive sight.
Then breathes into this corpse His hope;
The naked child now starts to grope.

As “Live!”, the voice of Mercy speaks,
“Live!” He then his task completes
By gently cleansing, then of claiming,
Bestows worth by His renaming.

Then wraps around this weak, frail babe
Garments of fine linen made.
Extravagance, no cost withheld,
For with this His great love He tells.

Pure, majestic, regal birth,
The lavish robe declares great worth.
Though doom was sure, love claimed its place.
Helpless despair replaced by grace.

My God, with no restraint, You seek
My filthy soul whose sin must reek.
And yet You love, with lavish show,
That I might Your great mercy know.

Eternal Lover in control,
Winsome Wooer of my soul,
Your righteousness covers my shame.
In awe I praise Your noble name.

(I am so grateful for your love, God! Increase my understanding of it and appreciation for it.)
