A Jar, A Donkey, or a Simple ol' Woman like Me

“Isn’t there someone else?” I ask God for the gazillionth time.

Much like Moses when he was asked to be the spokesman for God’s chosen people, I point to my inadequacies (as if God has forgotten them?!!) and insist, “Certainly, there is someone else you really mean for this job!?”

“I absolutely am not equipped and without a doubt will embarrass you as I fall flat on my face.”
“Certainly, God,” I reason. “You can’t mean for me to do this?!”
Hidden among the insecurity of these words and the apparent lack of confidence in myself they evidence is something insidious.
Self-focus.
More precisely, a lack of God-focus.

Is it really me that God needs to do anything? Is it in any way the talents or person that I am that accomplishes something?
Or is it God?
And if it is God (as I’d acknowledge), why do I wallow in self doubt, self deprecating analysis and excessive self consciousness?
Self-focus.
Certainly an enemy to faith.

If God calls me (or you) to some task, responsibility, ---even trial, he is most definitely able to accomplish his purposes in it.
Our own deficiencies not withstanding.
(Whether they be fear at our inexperience, weariness at its high demand, disbelief at its uncharted requirement, uncertainty of what step to take next, or lack of confidence in our own ability to accomplish it.)

Don’t waste energy discussing with God his choice for a task he’s given you.
Cling to the promise of His provision in all things (strength), his gift in all circumstances (peace) and His Guide in any endeavor (Holy Spirit).
Then step forward in trust and do it.
Leave the result to Him.

I often remind myself that God’s been known to speak through a donkey; certainly, he could (should he choose) work through me. J

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, so that the surpassing greatness may be found in Christ and not in us.”

  2. Good thoughts. God certainly doesn't "need" us to accomplish his purposes, but through his grace he allows us to be used for his glory. It's often hard to let God drive. I sometimes tend to be a backseat driver, giving advice where it isn't needed:)
