Have I Left my First Love? Part 2

The last post asked the sober question:
Have I left my First Love?

The follow up to that is...

If I have, what then...?
What if I do, as I search my heart, sense diminished or halfhearted interest in God, an appeal and attraction for other things, look forward to times of refreshment with other people, seek pleasure in relaxation or entertainment….?
What if I am busy in legitimate pursuits, of family, vocation, responsibility, even ministry…too busy?
Or what if my heart is hurting, or weary, or uncertain, or doubting, or unconcerned?
What if my heart is caught in the entanglement of a familiar sin, allowing no victory from the strong pull of its beckoning voice?
What then?
What if I have left my first love? (not jumped ship, just…drifted?)
(And we all do at some point, for some time, in some way.)
There is hope.
1) Don’ t think for one moment you are alone or that God has moved; He hasn’t
2) Don’t think for one moment that you are in an okay place ‘just for the time being’; you’re not.
3) Don’t think for one moment you are outside God’s hand to pursue, rescue, discipline, embrace, or whatever is needed in your situation; you aren’t
4) Don’t think for one moment there is a reason to wait any longer to run back to God; there isn’t
Repent. Confess. Yield in obedience and faith. Plead with Him to change your heart.
He’s waiting in holiness and love….and for now, patience.
He’s not missing out; you are.
Return to your first love.

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first.” Rev. 7:5

"Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8

Lord, In your mercy and grace forgive my great transgression in not loving you with my whole heart, and soul, and mind, and strength. Protect my affection that it may be for You as my ever and always supreme, first love... ~Amen

  1. Hi Elaine,
I just found your blog today while on the Eden Baptist website. I've just briefly looked over some of your posts and want you to know that they've been an encouragement to my heart. I look forward to stopping by your blog often!
